At the triennial sustainability summit of local governments, the Canadian city Vancouver announced that it is committed to run its city on 100% renewable energy within 20 years from now. In the awareness that cities and urban areas are responsible for about three quarters of the global CO2-emissions it is understood that cities do have a responsibility and have to show leadership to curb emissions.
